Right now, right this moment, there are some young chess leaders from Southern New Mexico, representing New Mexico Chess, where no New Mexico Scholastic Chess Players have gone before! They are leading their Chess Coach Will Barela to Kingston, Eastern Ontario, Canada! The 2019 North American Youth Chess Championships is a Chess Title earning event with 12 sections. The following organizations are responsible for this year’s event: Chess’n Math Association (CMA), the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE). This is the 4th time the event is being held in Canada and the first time in beautiful Kingston, Ontario. It will be FIDE, CFC and CMA rated. Players under 18 years old (as of Jan 1, 2019) from Canada, the U.S.A., Mexico and Bahamas are eligible to play. IM/WIM title, IM/WIM norms, FM/WFM/CM/WCM FIDE titles available! Trophies will be awarded to the top 5 in each section. FIDE Titles as well as norms will be awarded to the top 3 in each section. Tournament settings are 9 Rounds Swiss System and Game in 90 minutes plus 30 second increment per move. But enough of that… Here are New Mexico’s Proud Scholastic Chess Players:
