Dear NMCO Membership:

I am writing to bring you up to date with NMCO activities.  Our January Memorial Tournament was a big success and I again want to thank my fellow board members for the tremendous job they did putting it together:  Will Barela, Vice President, Peter Lattimore, Tournament Organizer, Dean Brunton, Treasurer, Joey Troy, Webmaster and Willow LeTard, Secretary!   This is an all-volunteer crew and they really come through for NMCO!

As to current events:  Our next tournament is scheduled for May 27, &  28, 2017.  This tournament will determine the various Class Champions that will represent New Mexico in our tournament against Colorado.  The Colorado tournament will be held at the New Mexico State Capital Building, the date has not been determined  but will likely be in July or August.  Alongside the NM vs. CO match we will be structuring a larger tournament – keep an eye out for that announcement.

The Memorial Day tournament this year will be held at the Crowne Plaza , at 1901 Menaul Blvd. NE,  Albuquerque.  The Crowne Plaza is providing plenty of very attractive space for this tournament and will be holding a block of rooms at a rate of $84.00 per night.  (This rate is available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night).  The Crowne Plaza has recently completed a $14 million dollar renovation and the playing sites and rooms are wonderful.

I am encouraging everyone whether traveling to Albuquerque or interested in making it a stay-cation in Albuquerque to book rooms at the Crowne Plaza.  Although we got terrific prices for the ballrooms for this event our ability to afford this venue in the future is assisted by room reservations.   So make it a vacation and consider it a contribution to building New Mexico Chess!

It is our intention to provide a professional event in a comfortable setting, with accurate pairings, and rounds that start on time, every round.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the Class Tournament and beginning a dialogue regarding other ideas we have to further develop chess tournaments in New Mexico.

Please take advantage of the $5.00 discount available right now for the Class Tournament at the NMCO website!
