I was wondering If u guys can post other chess tournaments outside New Mexico on your website? For example, El Paso, Tucson, etc. and so on. The number one reason is that I live near Las Cruces and its a 2 hr. drive to
El Paso or Albuquerque. Im intrested in cities all around me especially outside my state that promotes chess. Im having difficult time finding chess clubs in El Paso. I looked online but Im not sure if these clubs are active. What can u guys do to help promote chess in El Paso, TX.?
There are several things we can do. What I do is regularly visit the web sites for Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma to look for tournaments I might be able to play in. I could always just ask our webmaster to publish summaries here with links. I was planning on asking neighboring states, especially Colorado and Arizona, if they would publish summaries and links to our tournaments, so it would be just a reciprocal thing for us to do the same. Will Barela, one of the NMCO board members, regularly holds tournaments in El Paso and Las Cruces/NMSU. There is a tournament in Socorro this weekend and then one at NMSU next weekend (hurry for that one – only the first 16 to register get to play). His email address is on this web site (he is the vice-president).
